On Line Stories

Well, this may be old hat to some of you but it is new to me. Found a website on Pinterest (of course) that has a great number of online stories. Not only are there stories, but games, songs, and printables. The stories are arranged by themes (action, fairy tales, things that go, etc.)  I thought it was pretty cool. Check it out and see if you like it: www.speakaboos.com

It's Been a While, So Here's a Freebie

No excuses, no excuses. I haven't posted in months. Well, I know most of us have just started enjoying our summers (I included-taught summer school)but before you know it, it will be time to go back to school. I know, don't think about it. So, since I haven't been around I thought I would post a cute and simple workstation that can be used for back to school. Students can use the ABC cards to match capital to lower case letters or for those kiddos who aren't ready for that yet-they can match capital to capital letters. Hope you're having a great summer Enjoy! Letter Matching Photobucket

Sight Word Freebie

Since our class is off to the farm, here is a fun game that my students like to play. We play with 2-4 students. Each students needs their own playing board (farm board) and make the same number of word card copies. Laminate and place all of your word cards in a bag. Students then reach in the bag, pull out a card and read the word. If they can read it, they keep it, and they place a marker (block, unifix cube, whatever you have) on their game board. If they are unable to read it,their friends help them out and read it for them and they must put the word back in the bag and it's the next person's turn. If they pull a word that they already have marked on their game board, they still read it, but place the word back in the bag, and lose a turn. The first one to cover all of their words is the winner. My students almost fight over this game, and it's a fun way for them to review sight words. Enjoy!

Community Helpers

Here are the community helpers pics that I took in the class. The kids have really enjoyed pretending to be community helpers. There's lots of good vocabulary and oral language development going on in the dramatic play areas.

This year we had a hospital operating room, a doctor's office, a veterinarian clinic, firetruck, and a beauty shop. I think they enjoyed the operating room the most. It's so much fun to sit back, watch, and listen as the children incorporate all the great information they are learning from books that we've read into the dramatic play areas.

We also had a fireman, doctor, and police officer come to the classroom to talk to the children about their careers. Lot's of fun.

As a culminating activity the children all dressed as a favorite community helper and we had a cute parade down the hallway. FUN!!!

Got to Get Back On It!!!

Well, I've been so very busy and haven't posted since October. Shame on me! I've really missed blogstalking, posting, and grabbing great ideas from all you bloggers. But I'm back now!. Thank you to all the new followers that have come by since I've been gone.

My class is getting ready to start our Community Helpers theme. It's one of my favorites. I really get into creating a real community in the classroom. Look for pictures soon.
